HISD Outreach

This program is meant to enhance Rice’s relationship to a High School audience generally not represented in substantial ways in its undergraduate population. The purpose in doing so is twofold: (1) contribute to Rice’s commitment to goodwill activities and strong relationships with the larger Houston community consistent with the school’s “Vision for the 2nd Century” and (2) contribute to Rice’s commitment to diversity within the student body through academic-based outreach. While successful participants are not guaranteed admission to Rice (or any other institution), the initiative seeks to broaden the applicant pool and introduce area high school students to Rice’s academic environment as a viable higher education option.

Thank you to Charlos and Lee M. Riley Endowed Fund for their generous support of CERCL's High School Outreach Initiative.

CERCL’s Annual essay contest enhances Rice's relationship with High School audiences generally under-represented in its undergraduate population and fosters critical thinking leading to action on issues that effect Houston communities, Texas, the Nation and the World.

The ACE@Rice student club improves the academic performance of HISD high school students while introducing Rice students to a collaborative and exploitative learning environment that reaches beyond the hedges of Rice campus.
